With daylight hours getting longer, now is a good time to start fertilizing your houseplants and start their growing season.

If you use city tap water for your houseplants, you will want to check the soil surface of your potted houseplants.  Fluoride and chlorine are both a type of salt and both are in city water.  Is there any white or yellowish crusty material visible?  Don’t panic, it is just salt build up.  It is fine to use tap water for your plants, but every now and then check the soil surface for this.  All you need to do is flush the soil.  Put your potted plant in the bathtub or sink and let water run through the soil. Take care to not overflow the top of the pot. As the water runs out the bottom of the pot it will take with it the excess salt.
