Lucy’s Story – Chapter 76

I’m so excited!  We’re getting ready for the holidays at our house. My dad doesn’t look so happy though.  My mom wants him to move all the furniture to make room for our future sweet smelling fresh Christmas tree.

Oh, there’s nothing like the smell of a pine tree.  It makes me feel like I’m out in the woods sniffing for squirrels or rabbits or deer or …whoops, I’m sorry, I digress, back to our story.

‘Come on, it’s waaay too early to do this!’ my dad said in a very high pitched voice.

Then it got real quiet.

It’s funny, I think my dad has that extra people sense…what do you call it?  Let me think a minute here.  I got it…ESP!  That’s it!  How do I know that?

Well, my mom didn’t have to say a word.  She just looked at him and it’s like my dad could read her mind!  He went back to moving the furniture.

Gosh, my dad is a smart guy!

This is how it all works!

You may pre-register for any or ALL of our workshop events by sending Marty an email at abfrobbins@yahoo.com or call us at 608-222-2269.

We want to have plenty of supplies for you to create your masterpieces, so pre-registration is appreciated, though not required.

All of our workshops are ongoing throughout the day between 9 and 3, so there is no need to sign up for a particular time slot, just the date.  Walk-ins are always welcome.

Join us this weekend for our Holiday Porch Pot Workshop.  Come on out with your family or a group of friends and create a lifelong memory.  Be together and laugh together!  Isn’t that what life is all about?

Our festive holiday porch pot workshop is just one of our many ‘hands-on’ workshops we offer our customers.  It’s a creative, fun and easy way to decorate for the holidays.

You are welcome to bring in your empty container from home or purchase one of ours.  Containers range from inexpensive plastic to high-end ceramic.  We will provide FREE sand for your container or liner.  (We recommend always using a liner in ceramic containers.)

We offer bundles of assorted fresh greens as a base to start your container. Once you have arranged the greens, you can add to your container from our wide assortment of artificial picks and stems to accentuate your design.

Finished prices range from $35 to $150.  It all depends on how large, how full, and how dramatic you want your container to be.

We do ask that you purchase your porch pot supplies from us and not bring in ones from home or other suppliers.

As with all our workshops, you do the actual planting, so please bring your gardening gloves and pruners with you!  Our experienced design staff will be on hand to assist with your design and arrangement.

We will be serving coffee, tea and hot cider along with an assortment of sweet treats!

If you can’t make it to one of our weekend workshops just stop out to the greenhouse from Monday through Friday, between 9:30-3:30 and do your own porch pot creation.  Please keep in mind that assistance will be limited outside of the workshop weekend hours.

Wreath Workshop

Sunday, November 30th
Ongoing throughout the day between 9am and 3pm

A cheery and festive wreath on your front door is a warm and welcoming way to greet your holiday guests into your home.

Join us for our holiday wreath workshop and custom decorate a wreath.  We have 18”, 24”, 30” and 36” freshly made wreaths available.

You can select from an assortment of decorations to create your own individually decorated wreath. Pricing is the cost of the wreath plus the cost of the individual picks, swags and bows that you select.

As with all our workshops, you do the creating.  Our experienced design staff will be on hand to assist you, if needed.

What a fun project for the family and, in fact, there are no limits to how many you can make.  What a nice surprise for Grandma and Grandpa or that very special neighbor.

It’s a thoughtful way to show people that you are thinking of them and wishing them Happy Holidays!

Ho, Ho, Ho…our fresh cut Christmas trees will be here very, very soon!  Again this year we will have locally grown Fraser/Balsam mix Christmas trees.

Our gorgeous trees grow in the great outdoors of Northern Wisconsin and due to the recent 2-3 foot snowfall in that area we are not sure when they will arrive. We are hoping to have them for this weekend but we do suggest that you give us a call at 608-222-2269 before you drive out.

Gorgeous Poinsettias

“It should be,” said his furious wife.
“It’s been on fire since seven o’clock!”

Our Kitchen

Thanksgiving is all about being with family, close friends and making memories that will last forever.  This recipe is a blast from the past from “Bonnie’s Kitchen”, circa 2006.  We had a contest that year to see who had the best Thanksgiving leftover recipe. This was one of Bonnie’s family favorites and we decided to share it with you, OUR FAMILY, one more time.

Turkey Au Gratin Casserole

  • 1 c chopped onion
  • 1 lg. green pepper
  • 6 T butter
  • 1 t basil
  • 1 (28 oz.) can diced tomatoes
  • 5-6 c cubed leftover turkey
  • ¼ t salt
  • ¼ t pepper
  • Touch of cayenne
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 c milk
  • ½ c grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Saute onion and green pepper in 2 T butter until soft.  Add basil and tomatoes with the juice. Cook rapidly, stirring until most of the liquid evaporates.  Stir in turkey, salt and peppers. Pour into a sprayed, shallow casserole dish.  Mix cream cheese with remaining 4 T of butter in a separate small bowl until well blended.  Gradually beat in the milk.  Spread over ingredients in casserole.  Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.  Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
