Lucys Story – Chapter 40
Lucys Rebuttal to last weeks chapter
Really? Wouldnt you think that I would wake myself up if I was running at full dog throttle? And in all of my 12 years I have never ever heard one of my canine friends use the term full dog throttle. Where did my mom dig that one up from?
Apparently my mom and dad dont realize that at times THEY are the disturbers? My dad snores like a train. My mom kicks her blankets off then she pulls them back on and then they are off again. Really, make up your mind here. Are you hot or are you cold, mom?
And Im the one keeping them awake at night?
I wont even mention the times that my mom and dad boot me out of the room so they can have some quiet time.
Honestly, its exhausting just thinking about all of this.

Spring has arrived at America’s Best Flowers
The calendar tells us Spring begins March 20th. Here at the greenhouses it begins much earlier. Every day we are planting more baskets, more containers and more 5 inch annuals and 4-packs. Our pottery shipments are arriving weekly. We have beautiful new glazes to offer this year. We also have lawn and garden art such as:
- Handmade iron products,
- Whimsical spinners and stakes,
- Ceramic Buddhas and resin gargoyles,
- Stainless steel gazing balls,
- Gorgeous bird baths, and
- Hand carved stone owls.
Every day is like Christmas with new and exciting shipments arriving. Stop on out and see whats new!
From the deck of a cruise ship, a passenger saw a small island with a bearded man shouting and desperately waving his hands.
Who is that? the passenger asked the steward
Ive no idea. Every year when we pass by, he goes nuts.
Americas Best Flowers Fundraising Program
There is still time to participate and earn funds for your non-profit organization!
Spring 2014 is right around the corner! People are beginning to think about vegetable gardens, shade trees, flowering shrubs and glorious flowers.
What perfect timing for your non-profit organization to participate in Americas Best Flowers fundraiser program. Non-profit organizations earn 25% of the proceeds from each gift card they sell. For example, if your organization sells $500 of our gift cards, which are available in any denomination over $10, your organization would earn $125.
Please contact us if your non-profit organization is in need of funds for things such as (but by no means limited to):
- Local charities, (i.e. food pantry)
- Church mission trips
- New equipment or uniforms for your school sports program, or
- New equipment or uniforms for your school band or orchestra
Americas Best Flowers gift cards are valid at both our Cottage Grove and Edgerton locations.
If you are interested or have questions regarding our easy and profitable program, please contact Shirley at abfscimino@yahoo.com.
Jeb and Bo, two good ole boys, were sitting on the front porch when a large truck hauling rolls and rolls of sod went by.
Im gonna do that when I win the lottery, said Jeb.
Do what? asked Bo
Send my grass out to be mowed, answered Jeb.

Our Kitchen
This yummy cake recipe is back by popular demand! I wonder where expressions like this originate. How many people have to ask for something before it is popular? Is simply asking Could you please be enough to call it a demand? If you know these answers, please email abfbev@yahoo.com, who, by the way, is back by popular demand, too. (Im pretty sure having several workers here at Americas Best calling to ask where are you qualifies both as popular and demand.)
This recipe first appeared in our March 17, 2011 newsletter after we all were treated to its deliciousness by Jesse, our long-lost retail associate; who, by the way, is also back by popular demand and we couldnt be happier. Stop out anytime between 9 and 5 Monday through Friday to say Hello. Hell be so glad to see you.
Andes Grasshopper Cake

- 1 devils food cake mix
- water
- vegetable oil
- eggs
- 16 oz. non-dairy whipped topping
- 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese (softened)
- 1 pkg. (4.67 oz.) Andes Crème de Menthe Thins
Directions
Follow mixing instructions on the package of your favorite devils food cake mix. Bake as directed for two 8 or 9-inch layers. Cool cakes thoroughly before frosting (about 40 minutes).
Meanwhile, with a vegetable peeler shave along side of each mint lengthwise to equal about ½ cup of curls. (Its common to shave only half the mint before it breaks.) Set aside curls for sprinkling on top of assembled cake. Chop broken pieces and reserve for use in frosting (about 1/3 cup).
Frosting:
In a large mixing bowl with mixer on medium speed, beat the cream cheese until smooth then lower the speed and slowly mix in the non-dairy whipped topping with the cream cheese. Fold the Andes Crème de Menthe pieces into the cream.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate; top with half the frosting and spread evenly. Place second layer on top and use remaining frosting to top the cake. Sprinkle top with Andes Mint curls. Cover and refrigerate cake if not serving right away.
