Lucy was diagnosed with arthritis last month and Dr. Sara told us it was very important to keep her moving. Our instructions were to take her on short, slow walks once or twice a day. And that’s how we start each and every day now. Well, good news! Lucy is doing so much better. She is able to jump up on the couch now and she even has a frisky-ness to her step.
Okay, now it’s full disclosure time. What I didn’t mention earlier was that Lucy had gained 7 pounds in a matter of 2 ½ months. Let’s get real here, no two-or-four legged girl needs that tidbit put in a newsletter, right? Thus the weight omission. It’s also obvious that someone was over feeding her. I’m sorry, please don’t judge me! I’ve used the one cup measuring scoop forever and then I mistakenly thought ‘Who needs a measuring cup’. Well, obviously, I do! Man did I feel bad. So, we’ve been back to the measured scoop for about 4-5 weeks now. Lucy gets one scoop in the morning and one at night. Okay, more full disclosure, she gets one tablespoon of boiled lean hamburger in with her kibble with each meal. Anyway, between the walks and measured food Lucy has lost 2.2 lbs.
Is there a moral to the story? Well, I guess there is something to be said about exercise and portion control. Hmmm, I’ll have to give it a try, wait, let me think about it for a while, I’ll get back to you.
