Combined Holiday Centerpiece
Poinsettia Painting Workshops

Sunday, December 8th
Ongoing throughout the day between 9 and 3

Create a beautiful centerpiece for your holiday table!  Start by adding fresh greens to florist’s foam to create your base.  Choose from an assortment of picks for a seasonal accent.  For that classic look simply add a candle.

Poinsettia painting is an opportunity to color (paint) a creamy white poinsettia with a custom color. We will have several custom colors available that you will spray onto the poinsettia to create your own decorator color. It is best to bring along an old LONG SLEEVED shirt or smock to wear while painting.

You may pre-register for our workshop events by sending Marty an email at abfrobbins@yahoo.com or call us at 608-222-2269.  Our workshop is ongoing throughout the day between 9 and 3, so there is no need to sign up for a particular time slot.

We want to have plenty of supplies for you to create your masterpieces, so pre-registration is appreciated, though not required.  Walk-ins are always welcome.

Holiday Porch Pots

Muffled Workers

Winters are fierce where he lives, so the owner of the estate felt he was doing a good deed when he bought earmuffs for his foreman.
Noticing, however, that the foreman wasn’t wearing the earmuffs even on the bitterest day, the landlord asked, "Didn’t you like the muffs?"
The Foreman said, "They’re a thing of beauty."
"Why don’t you wear them?"
The Foreman explained, "I was wearing them the first day, and somebody offered to buy me lunch, but I didn’t hear him! Never again, never again!"

Lucy’s Story – Chapter 34

My dad wasn’t too keen on my idea of him choosing the winning article for each week’s chapter of Lucy’s Story.  He was whispering that it could jeopardize his health.  What a weird thing to say.  What does his health have to do with choosing between my article and my mom’s article?  Hmmm, ya know, sometimes you just have to play along.

Anyway, he came up with a great idea.  He’s going to flip a coin.  After noticing my quizzical look, he explained that even the Packers do it at the beginning of each of their football games.  Well, that’s all I needed to hear.

My dad then told my mom about his great idea, and she laughed at him and called him a chicken.  There we go again!  What does a chicken have to do with any of this?

Before the three of us met in the kitchen, which just happens to be my favorite room in the house, my dad took me aside and told me to call heads.  He said that since my mom knew how to play this game that it was only fair that he let me know that heads is luckier than tails.  That’s my dad, always looking out for me.

My dad says to my mom that since it was my first flip ever that I should call it and my mom agreed.

I called heads and yeah, I won!

My mom noticed my dad smiling and quickly putting the coin back in his pocket.  All of a sudden she said to him ‘that had better not be your two-headed coin, Mister’.  With that my dad burst out laughing and ran outside.

Not sure what was so funny, but that’s okay ‘cause when they laugh together it makes me feel all warm and tingly inside.

`til next time,
    ~ Lucy

Our Kitchen

Happy week after Thanksgiving.  Hope you all had a wonderful holiday.  Today’s recipe is a simple way to use some of that leftover Thanksgiving turkey you might have in your freezer.  If you finished it all, do not despair, cooked chicken works just as well.  Serve with a side Zatarain’s Red Beans & Rice for a quick and  delicious meal. Enjoy!!

Turkey Tacos

  • 1 pkg taco seasoning mix
  • 2 cups cooked shredded turkey or chicken
  • 8 hard taco shells or soft tortillas
  • your favorite taco toppings

If you are making the beans and rice, start that first. It will require 35-40 minutes.

In a medium sauce pan, mix taco seasoning mix with water per package instructions.  Allow to simmer a bit and then add the shredded turkey (or chicken).  Stir well and heat on low for a few minutes, stirring a couple of times.

Meanwhile heat hard taco shells on a baking sheet in 300 degree oven for 10 minutes until hot.  Or heat soft tortilla shells in the microwave.

Chop lettuce, onion, tomatoes and whatever else you like.

Top tacos with grated cheese, sour cream, salsa and jalapenos, if desired.

For a real flavor treat, try Paul Newman’s Mango Salsa.  Yummm!
