Lucys Story – Chapter 92

"I don’t mind the dummies. Honestly. They only occasionally move around on their own."

Snippet from Lucys journal
Ok, here we go again! Me and my dad are trying very hard to talk my mom out of bringing those stupid dummies up from the basement this summer and putting them in the backyard. "Oh, but they are a part of our family … " my mom whined. (Oops, I didnt mean to say that it just slipped out!)
My dad and I looked at each other. Its like he was reading my mind cause he said. Well, maybe this year Lucy and I would like to have a little more input on this dummy thing then weve had in the past. What do you say to that?"
My mom said N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! Not a word. She just looked at us. After a few minutes of the LOOK (seemed like hours to me) my dad said, Well, Lucy, I think we just got our answer."
Me and my dad quietly went to the basement.
Till next time!
~Lucy

You Cant Get Here from There
The road construction on Cottage Grove Rd and Stoughton Rd (Hwy 51) may change the route some of you will take to get to the greenhouse this year. See this article for information.
Since Southbound entrance and exit ramps onto 51 will be closed, those coming from the north will need to get off Hwy 51 at the Milwaukee Street exit. Go left (east) at the bottom of the exit ramp and stay on Milwaukee St. until you get to Sprecher Rd. Turn right (south) go to the first stop light, which is Cottage Grove Rd. Turn left (east) go 1 mile and then take a right (south) on Vilas Hope Rd. We are down one half mile on the right. Hope to see you soon!!

Our Kitchen
Last Friday, May 15 was National Chocolate Chip Day.
I was totally unaware of this special event created to celebrate the wonderful goodness of chocolate chips, until Judy mentioned it this morning. Soooo I decided to share a recipe Sharon brought in last week.
I had originally planned to include it during strawberry season, because the addition of chocolate would make strawberry shortcake into something phenomenal. You might want to copy it (highlight recipe and copy to a word document) and keep it handy. I can think of several occasions to make these. Theres Sunday, and Monday, and Tuesday .. Enjoy!!
Chocolate Chip Shortcake
- 2 ½ c flour
- ¼ c sugar
- 4 t baking powder
- ¼ t salt
- 2/3 c butter
- 2/3 c half & half
- 1 egg plus 1 yolk (save white)
- mini chocolate chips about half a 12 oz. bag
Directions
Preheat oven to 400. Combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter to size of small peas. Mix half & half, egg and egg yolk in small bowl. Add to flour mixture. Stir until just combined. Dump onto a floured board. Knead a few times. Cut in half. Form each into an 8 circle. Place one on a greased baking sheet. Put mini chips on top and place other circle on top. Seal edges. Brush with beaten egg white and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 18-20 minutes.
Cut into wedges to serve. Wonderful topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.
