In my garden, I have been making unexpected discoveries by chance. From what I have learned from my coworkers and friends, this happens all the time in gardens. There are always new things to be seen or uncovered every day. Look closely and you will find some. Take a stroll through your own garden and you’re sure to find a few welcome newcomers, or in some cases, not so welcome. Perhaps you will find some new growth or a new plant; one that you never knew was there.
Now that I have my watering and mosquitos under control, I love going out to survey my little garden. This past Sunday, I was happy to see that my little watermelon seemed to be the size of a golf ball now. Not too shabby! All of my Roma tomatoes have now been harvested and I had one last green pepper that I was waiting to pick before pulling up the plant to free up the space for the melons. (The melons are shooting out every which way, and the squash is really blooming. The biggest problem I’m going to have is knowing if I have a melon, a squash, or an unknown!) To my surprise, when I plucked the lone pepper off the plant, I found a much bigger watermelon right underneath!
I was so excited I called my Mom out to check it out. While we were marveling at just how big it was, I noticed something to the left and found a cucumber happily growing away! Isn’t that just the way life goes sometimes? I didn’t plant any cucumbers, but when nature takes over the garden, it’s full of pleasant surprises. What could be better than that? You go out one day to discover, by accident, another plant is happily growing away in your tumble of vines.Today, I hope you all enjoy the unexpected in your garden.

Until next time,
