Behind the Scenes at America’s Best Flowers
The seasons are forever changing here at America’s Best Flowers, in fact I think we skipped summer and went straight to Fall.  And although we don’t look busy to some of our customers, behind the scenes we are busy little bees.  At this time of year we are pulling hundreds of mums from our backfields to supply local vendors.

Our landscaping staff replanted 14 hotels with fall displays.  In our spare time we attend shows that feature next year’s new products, place orders and confirm what we will receive. We order approximately 580,000 starter plugs which in February we turn into over 11,000 baskets, 80,000 5″ containers, 9,000 flats and 20,000 3″ vegetable containers!!! and lets not forget the 319,000 plus picture tags that need to be ordered and then filed by variety and color.  Right now our office staff is busy entering these orders and getting the information into our system.
Starting soon is the Scarecrow Workshop, which will run the first three weekends in October. Staff is available to help make your scarecrow one of a kind.  And our new floral shop provided the centerpieces for the World Dairy Expo luncheon and dinner and can assist you with your special event!  Our expert designers are receiving more and more calls everyday.  So if you stop in at the greenhouse and don’t see someone right away it’s not that we are closed or taking a nap, we are just busy bustling, taking care of business.

Fall Decorating Focus
by: Patty Bindley

Fall decorating season is in full swing, and we have just what you need to make your yard, patio, and even indoor spaces look their absolute best.
Our fall mums are the headliner; gorgeous and the biggest around!  They are available in a multitude of colors. From deep reds and oranges, to bright whites and yellows, to lush pinks and purples.  We have single color mums priced at $9.99, and tri-colors at $11.99.  A good buy considering how large even the single colors can get.  You have to see them to believe it!  You’d be hard pressed to find mums better cared for than those sold here at America’s Best Flowers.  Planted in July, our mums are grown entirely outdoors.  We have four fields, with an integrated watering system.  The pots are widely spaced to allow the mums to grow to their full potential.  The fields are a spectacular sight when in full bloom.
Looking for something to plant alongside your mums? We also have pansies and a variety of ornamental cabbage, kale, swiss chard, grasses, and peppers.  All of these can take the cooler weather and look great either as a complement to your mums or in containers on their own.  Pot them all up in a small or large jack-o-lantern style pot, just in time for Halloween!
If you’ve already stopped by for mums and cool weather plants, come on back for all kinds of fall decor items just waiting to spark your creativity.  We have pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors, including standard smooth, warty/bumpy pumpkins, pie pumpkins, and ornamental gourds.  Also available are ornamental corn bundles, corn shocks, and straw bales to create the perfect fall look for your yard or porch.
Last but not least, if you’re creating centerpieces for indoors we can provide as well.  Fall colored dried wheat and cattails, lotus pods, bittersweet, fall themed metal picks, and artificial berries can be paired with our gourds and ornamental corn to make a lovely arrangement.

However you decide to decorate this Fall, be sure to stop by and check out what we have to offer.  Let us provide for your perfect Autumn display.
