Let’s do our best to stay healthy this season!

Here we go, folks, another flu season is creeping up on us!  Getting an annual flu vaccine is, well, a pain in the…arm.  That being said, a little needle prick may save you 7-10 days of being down and out and dangerously ill with the flu. There are several other vaccines that we all need to stay current with.  The pneumococcal, tetanus and shingles are other important vaccines for you to discuss with your doctor. Please, let's take the time to look out for one another. Asking for help is often difficult. Is there anyone in your family or neighborhood that may need a ride to the doctor or clinic for any of these vaccines?  Maybe a senior citizen, a disabled person or someone without transportation, perhaps?  Regardless of the circumstance, why not reach out and let someone know that you care.Let's set a goal to stay healthy and to take care of ourselves AND each other!

It happens every now and then!

Due to lack of plant availability the Bonsai Class that we had scheduled for this coming Saturday, September 23rd has been cancelled for this season.

Digging and Storing Summer-Blooming Tender Bulbs

As we approach the latter part of September, the inevitable task of having to put your summer blooming bulbs to rest is sure to be on your mind. Flowers such as Dahlias, Cannas, Gladiolas, Caladiums, Colocasias and Alocasias are not hardy in Wisconsin and therefore are considered “tender bulbs”. We can still enjoy these wonderful plants with just a little more effort at the end of the summer in order to ensure their survival. Please go to our BLOG for complete details on Tender Bulbs.

Our Kitchen – By Lee

With summer coming to a close and fall right around the corner you'd think it would be almost time to break out the soup pots-but according to the forecast it sounds like a heat wave for the next week or so, and with that in mind "Soups On", a cold one that is! And no pot needed!!This super simple chilled soup recipe takes me back to my childhood. My mother use to make it in the summer, especially when it was really hot outside. We didn't have air conditioning and this would help cool us down.We always had cucumbers and mint growing in the backyard, and also jars of dried mint from the previous season.

Chilled Cucumber Yogurt Soup

Chilled Cucumber Yogurt Soup

• 2 large English cucumbers peeled and chopped (they have less seeds)• 2 cups plain yogurt• 1/2 cup ice water• 1 clove smashed garlic• 1 tablespoon crushed dried mint or 2 tablespoons fresh mint• 1 teaspoon salt or to taste

1. Mix together yogurt and water in a bowl until smooth.2. Add cucumbers, garlic, mint and salt, mix to combine.3. May be served immediately.4. Stores nicely in fridge for several days.Besides a cold soup this can also be served as a cold salad or side dish.Cheers!!
